Which AP Studio Art Course Should I Take?
You will work toward submission of a portfolio exam for ONE of the three courses. Whichever one you choose, your goal will be to create a portfolio of college-level work and, at the end of the school year, submit it for evaluation. A qualifying portfolio score can earn you college credit and/or advanced placement.
The AP Program at New Albany High School
New Albany High School is the only high school in the area offering AP Capstone™. AP Capstone™ is a diploma program from the College Board. It’s based on two year long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research.
Students can earn the AP Capstone Diploma™ or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing receive the AP Capstone Diploma™.
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research but not on four additional AP Exams receive the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™.

THE PORTFOLIO:
SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION (60% of exam score)
For all three portfolios, students will submit images and writing to document their inquiry-guided investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision:
Typed responses to prompts, providing information about the questions that guided their investigation and how they practiced, experimented, and revised, guided by their questions.

SELECTED WORKS(40% of exam score)
For all three portfolios, students will submit works of art and design and writing to demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas.
For AP 3-D Art and Design: Digital images of five works (two views of each) with typed responses describing the materials, processes, and ideas used.
As an AP Studio Art student, you are asked to emphasize research, experimentation, discovery, inventive thinking and artmaking, critical analysis, and problem-solving in your work.
- For AP 2-D Art and Design and AP Drawing: Five physical works or high-quality reproductions of physical works and written responses on paper describing the materials, processes, and ideas used.
For AP 3-D Art and Design: Digital images of five works (two views of each) with typed responses describing the materials, processes, and ideas used.
As an AP Studio Art student, you are asked to emphasize research, experimentation, discovery, inventive thinking and artmaking, critical analysis, and problem-solving in your work.
In the spring, you will upload digital images of your work and commentary online. If you submit a Drawing or 2-D Design portfolio, you'll also send in actual artworks.
